How Importance Impacts the ARPEDIO Assessment Score
Areas, Topics, and Questions can each be assigned an Importance level of Low, Normal, or High. This weighting directly influences the final assessment score at every level.
Note: Best practice is to start with Normal importance across all elements. Once you have completed a full assessment and have an overview of your template, review each element and adjust specific ones to Low or High where appropriate.
Score levels
The ARPEDIO Assessment calculates scores across four levels:
- An Overall score
- A score for each Area
- A score for each Topic within each Area
- The weighted value of each Question answer
Each score reflects the degree of completion at that level and is scaled to a maximum value of 5.
How importance weighting works
Importance maps to a numeric weight used in all score calculations:

Overall score
The Overall score is the weighted average of all Area scores, using each Area's Importance as the weight.
Score(Overall) = (S(A1)*I(A1) + S(A2)*I(A2) + ... + S(An)*I(An)) / (I(A1) + I(A2) + ... + I(An))
Area score
Each Area score is the weighted average of the Topic scores within that Area.
Score(Area) = (S(T1)*I(T1) + S(T2)*I(T2) + ... + S(Tn)*I(Tn)) / (I(T1) + I(T2) + ... + I(Tn))
Topic score
Each Topic score is calculated from the answers given to the Questions within it. Each answer is assigned a weight between 0 and 1, distributed progressively across the available answer options so that the first option always has a weight of 0 and the last always has a weight of 1.
Example weight distributions by number of answer options:

The Topic score formula, scaled to a maximum of 5, is:
Score(Topic) = (A(Q1)*I(Q1) + A(Q2)*I(Q2) + ... + A(Qn)*I(Qn)) / (I(Q1) + I(Q2) + ... + I(Qn)) * 5
Where A(Qn) is the answer weight for question n and I(Qn) is the importance weight for question n.
Viewing scores in the Heat Map
The Sales Heat Map gives you a cross-account or cross-opportunity view of all your ARPEDIO data, displaying the Overall score and individual Area scores for each record at a glance.
